DURHAM, N.C. — Green jackets for elite entrepreneurs? Could be.

The Council for Entrepreneurial Development is launching an Entrepreneur Hall of Fame to honor in part its 32-year past – which includes old logos such as the one featured with this post.

So don’t yell at me about the “out of date” logo. Like it, the Hall will highlight blasts from the past. The first honorees will be disclosed at CED’s Founders Day, which is set for May 17 at The Frontier in RTP.

So what’s going on? The CED’s Steve Hinkson provides the details.

  • Why is CED doing this?
CED’s Founders Day on May 17 and the inaugural class of the Entrepreneur Hall of Fame are a celebration of the community that so many people have worked hard to build. The Entrepreneur Hall of Fame is also an effort to honor individuals who have made significant impact on the growth and success of our community over the years.
  • Who picks the inductees?
CED has invited a mix of entrepreneurs, investors, service providers, and community partners to serve on a selection committee.
  • What are the criteria?
The Entrepreneur Hall of Fame recognizes individuals for founding, leading, and advancing North Carolina companies. Inductees are leaders in our network who have had outsized influence on the growth of the ecosystem, or brought a game-changing innovation to life, and are dedicated to the future success of entrepreneurship in this region.
  • Is this for individuals and companies?
Currently we are focused on honoring individual contributions.
  • When will selections be made, and how?
Selections will be made over the next two weeks by the selection committee.
  • How many will be selected? Is there a limit?
We are keeping the class structure flexible to allow for the unique nature of our community in North Carolina. Generally, we are looking to induct representatives from the best of our entrepreneurs, investors and service providers/community partners.
  • Will this be done annually?
    That is the current plan.
  • What will inductees receive?
We will honor the inductees and their stories on our website and digital channels. As for a physical award, we have a few options under consideration – though there has been talk of colored blazers… You’ll have to show up on May 17 to find out!

Registration for Founders Day is open: free for CED Members, $20 for Non-members.
