Why did you start your business in North Carolina?
Phononic was virtual at the time I launched, with R&D operations spread out around the country. With an initial technical proof-of-concept in hand, we needed space/talent/logistics specific to compound semiconductor innovation and manufacturing. We canvassed the country and identified Phoenix, Austin, and RTP as thought leaders in this space -- a deeper analytic dive made RTP a no-brainer.
What is the best part about running your business in your community?
Company is headquartered in Durham on the western edge of RTP, although our first formal office/lab was on Centennial Campus at NCSU. Our headquarters is centrally located and facilitates people from throughout the Triangle and even from Greensboro.
What do you believe your North Carolina community has that other startup hubs can’t offer?
We have a combination of talent but also turn-key, often hard to find, infrastructure – this saves time and money.
In 3 words, how would you describe the entrepreneurial culture in NC?
Scrappy ∙ Resourceful ∙ Determined
