Why did you start your business in North Carolina?
We deliberately chose to move our business and families to North Carolina from Wisconsin. We create tools to help researchers find disease cures more quickly. To make this work, we require outstanding talent; something North Carolina is known for throughout the country. We searched for a community who shares our culture of accessibility and transparency. Plus, we want to be surrounded by the best. The Triangle region is among the best in the world. We have been welcomed by wonderful people.
What is the best part about running your business in your community?
Practichem is headquartered in Morrisville, and will always remain in the Triangle area. The accessibility here is outstanding. We are only 5 stoplights from the airport, just over the border from RTP, and about halfway between Durham and Raleigh. We can get anywhere from here. More importantly, we are within reach of many great employees and partners.
What do you believe your North Carolina community has that other startup hubs can’t offer?
The Triangle offers a great balance of top tier biotechnology professionals and a very exciting lifestyle. Among the universities, the support infrastructure (like CED, NC Biotechnology Center, NCBio and NCTA, for example) and the density of biotech leadership, the Triangle is absolutely the right spot for Practichem. We evaluated other entrepreneurial communities before moving. NC offered cost effective access to talent, community, and collegiality.
