Why did you start your business in North Carolina?
Our company Impathiq is a spin-out from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. All across North Carolina, we are fortunate to have amazing universities and academic centers like WFBMC. They attract top talent that generate innovations with the potential to improve lives across the world. We identified a promising innovation, put together the right people, built a business plan, and here we are. Impathiq is gaining momentum. We are creating new jobs in the state and bringing important medical solutions to hospitals across the country. The resources available in North Carolina have helped us get to where we are today.
What is the best part about running your business in your community?
Impathiq started in Winston-Salem NC, but we have since relocated to Raleigh NC. We did this mainly for three reasons. One, our investors at Cofounders Capital are based in Cary and we wanted to facilitate more in-person meetings with them on a regular basis. Two, the triangle makes so many incredible resources available to companies like ours. And three, every member of our leadership team has a deep personal connection to North Carolina, which makes it all the more rewarding to build our business here.
What do you believe your North Carolina community has that other startup hubs can’t offer?
Without question, North Carolina has been key for our success as a company. Investor groups, professional organizations, the university talent pool, and the incredibly supportive community of entrepreneurs all contribute to making North Carolina a great place for startups. Most importantly, there is a dynamic culture here - a collective passion, energy and enthusiasm - that enables all of us to be more successful. We are thrilled to be a part of the triangle business community.
In 3 words, how would you describe the entrepreneurial culture in NC?
