Why did you start your business in North Carolina?
The culture and environment for business in North Carolina is second to none with access to universities, an educated workforce in technology, in particular, and quality of life for employees.
What is the best part about running your business in your community?
Creative Allies was founded in Asheville, NC and currently located in Raleigh but are planning to move our firm to the American Underground in Durham. We selected this location for our business because of the proximity to hundreds of startup companies. Also, there has been a major transformation in downtown Durham, from the restaurants and hotels to the performing arts. The confluence of businesses provides an environment that appeals to millennials.
What do you believe your North Carolina community has that other startup hubs can’t offer?
I don’t know that it’s so much what we have that others don’t as much as what we do with what we have better than others. NC has been subject to some negative press but North Carolinians want to get back to talking about our world-class educational institutions and our world-class businesses of all sizes, including some of the most diverse and successful startups in the US. Our environment for business, inclusion and success at all stages of your firm are here locally and available.
In 3 words, how would you describe the entrepreneurial culture in NC?
Inclusion – you succeed based on your productivity and not your pedigree • Value – from education to recreation, NC gives you a world class experience at a price that most people can afford • Underestimated – historically an agricultural state, NC has experienced explosive growth in technology and life sciences
