Forge Spotlight – Jon Sternstein of Stern Security

Jon Sternstein, Founder & CEO of Stern Security, knows firsthand how crucial the right support system is when growing a business. Looking back, Jon wishes he had known about the Center for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) when he first started. “There’s so much you don’t know when you launch a business,” he shared. “CED would have been incredibly helpful back then.”

For Jon, CED plays a critical role in strengthening the local economy and helping entrepreneurs solve big challenges. “If you’re trying to grow the local economy and tackle significant problems in this area, a group like CED is incredibly important,” he said.

One of the most valuable aspects of CED is its ability to connect entrepreneurs with experienced mentors and peers who have navigated similar challenges. “It’s so helpful to talk with people who have been through it or who can connect you with the right resources,” Jon noted.

Jon has found several CED programs particularly impactful. One standout experience was participating in Mentor Match where he presented a business challenge to a group of experts. “We discussed scaling and growing the company—when to hire a salesperson and whether it was the right time,” he recalled.

He also benefited from CED’s structured programs, such as a series of marketing workshops where a group of entrepreneurs met every other week to dive deep into key growth strategies.

Another highlight was Venture Connect, a conference designed to connect entrepreneurs with investors and advisors. While Stern Security didn’t raise capital at the event, Jon found the experience invaluable for fine-tuning his pitch and building relationships. “If we ever decide to raise money, we’ve already formed great connections,” he said.

Beyond structured programs, CED’s networking events have also been instrumental. “Talking with people who are going through similar experiences is incredibly valuable,” Jon emphasized.

Jon has already seen CED evolve significantly over the years. Initially, the organization focused primarily on networking events, but now it offers more in-depth programs aimed at solving specific business challenges. “These recent initiatives have been a great addition and are absolutely needed for businesses to succeed,” he noted. Looking ahead, he envisions CED continuing to expand its hands-on support for startups, helping them navigate critical growth stages.

For those considering getting involved with CED, Jon’s advice is simple: “Stop hesitating and just do it.” He encourages entrepreneurs to take full advantage of CED’s resources by actively engaging with other members and advisors. “They are what you make of it. Stay connected, interact with these groups, and put the work in,” he advised.
