Strategic Partner Spotlight: Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative

Each month CED spotlights strategic partners that help to propel Triangle entrepreneurial companies onto the national stage as successful businesses. One of our October Strategic Partner Spotlights is Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative.

About Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative (Duke I&E)
Duke I&E expands the mission of Duke University to include the conversion of knowledge into products and services that make a real difference in real people’s lives. We support faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the regional entrepreneurial community in putting their ideas into action through education, mentorship, legal and business advice, prototyping support, space, and investor referrals.

Why does Duke I&E support CED as a strategic partner?
Duke University and Duke I&E are invested in the continuing success and growth of Duke employees and the local community. We believe a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem that connects innovators to all the resources that this region has to offer is essential to regional success. We are eager to support CED in its efforts to make the Triangle the entrepreneurial hub of the South.

How does Duke I&E help North Carolina entrepreneurs?
Many of our seminars and workshops at The Bullpen in downtown Durham are free and open to the public. https://entrepreneurship.duke.edu/events/ The Bullpen space can be used by community entrepreneurs as a resource. We are a founding partner with the American Underground, which offers a wide variety of co-working spaces to the area entrepreneurs. Our Duke Angel Network considers investment in startups that have a Duke connection including a founder or board member who is a Duke student, faculty member, staff, alumnus or parent.

What does Duke I&E envision for the future of entrepreneurship?
We envision a future in which all innovative ideas have access to a shot at success, a future in which an idea doesn’t remain “shelved” because an innovator didn’t know where to start, or how to develop and validate their business concept.
