Peopleclick Acquires Referral Networks' ERP Technology
RTP-based Peopleclick, a provider of strategic HR software and services ("Attain, Train and Retain"), recently announced the acquisition of Referral Networks, the leading provider of employee referral programs (ERP). Referral Networks' Employee Referral Manager (ERM) allows employers to enlist the help of employees, alumni, customers and other contacts by offering them a reward for referrals that lead to successful hires. Magellan Labs CEO Joins Southern Capitol Ventures Board
Research Triangle Park-based venture capital firm Southern Capitol Ventures recently announced that Al Childers, chief executive officer of Morrisville-based Magellan Laboratories, has joined its advisory board. Formed in 1991, Magellan Laboratories is one of the largest full-service pharmaceutical contract laboratories in the Southeast. 900 Hear from National Venture Capitalists, IT Experts at InfoTech 2001
Close to 900 entrepreneurs, investors, and service professionals came out for CED's 11th annual InfoTech 2001 conference last week in Chapel Hill. Well-known national venture capitalists, Mike Brooks, Venrock Associates, Bill Ford, General Atlantic Partners, and Bill Helman, Greylock Partners, appeared on the "Venture Capitalists' Outlook on the IT Industry" panel with moderator Steve Nelson, Wakefield Group. A lively journalists' panel on the current technology landscape featured Sumi Das, TechTV; Arik Hesseldahl, Forbes.com; Walt Mossberg, The Wall Street Journal; Alex Salkever, Business Week Online; and moderator, Sreenath Sreenivasan, Columbia University. Quintiles Describes National Early Warning System for Bioterrorism to Congress
RTP-headquartered Quintiles Transnational Corporation is proposing the use of its technology, infrastructure, and expertise to control bioterrorism. At a congressional hearing on bioterrorism preparedness, Quintiles senior executive, John Russell said that detection of possible bioterror events could be speeded by hours or days through an electronic disease surveillance system using existing medical and pharmaceutical claims data. Quintiles' sophisticated electronic healthcare monitoring system could be quickly modified to serve as a "national early warning system" for bioterrorism, Russell said in testimony before the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. www.quintiles.com

Raleigh-based FloLogic was one of eight recipients nationwide to be honored by Handy Magazine with its 2001 Handy Innovation Award.
