HAHT Lands $17M in First Round After Recapitalization
Raleigh-based HAHT Commerce, a software provider for order, brand, and customer service management between manufacturers, channel partners, and customers, closed on $17 million in a Series A round of funding. The round, the company's fifth overall, is the first after the company's recapitalization earlier this year. Adobe Ventures, Aurora Funds, BankAmerica Capital Investors, CIBC Capital Partners, Menlo Ventures, Sippl McDonald Ventures and Southeast Interactive Technology Funds participated in the round. www.haht.com
Sustainable Jobs Fund Invests in HDS Cosmetics Lab, Inc.
Sustainable Jobs Fund, L.P. (SJF) has closed on an investment in HDS Cosmetics Lab, Inc. of Harrison, NY as part of a $1 million financing round, according to SJF Managing Director Dan Hoversten. HDS Cosmetics Lab, which develops, manufactures and markets high-end skin-care products, expects to create at least 35 new quality, manufacturing jobs targeted to low income citizens in New York within the next four years. The $1 million financing round was led by Easton Hunt Capital Partners and included New York Community Investment Company. The capital will fund the expansion of marketing efforts, research & development, and production capacity for HDS. The Sustainable Jobs Fund, LP is a venture capital fund that invests in growing businesses in the eastern United States that create quality jobs for low-wealth individuals. ChannelAdvisor Gains Two New Clients
RTP-based ChannelAdvisor Corp. has been awarded contracts to provide enterprise marketplace management solutions for two wine companies that will begin selling premium wine on eBay in November. New Vine Logistics and Winetasting.com will list the wine in a new sub-category in the food and beverage section of eBay's Home & Garden category. EBay is testing the sale of wine among its 37 million registered users for a trial period. Terms of the deals have not been disclosed. www.channeladvisor.com
CED/WUNC Entrepreneurs On-Air Challenge A Success November 2
During WUNC's morning show on November 2, CED challenged entrepreneurs to make pledges to WUNC-FM, which in turn leveraged a $4,500 pool of donations from the Challenge. CED raised $4,500 in the Challenge, and we matched the on-air challenge of $4,500 in the first half hour of the program. All together CED along with our members helped raise $9000 for the Challenge. WFU's Babcock School Opens Business Incubator
Winston-Salem's much-anticipated business incubator was officially opened last week by Wake Forest University's Babcock Graduate School of Management as part of a broad effort to support the local business community. The Babcock Demon Incubator is aimed at promoting entrepreneurial education at the university and offers services and expertise to fledgling companies that have the potential for fast growth and significant economic effect in the Triad. The incubator operates under the Babcock School's Angell Center for Entrepreneurship. According to the Winston-Salem Journal, the incubator's first tenant is a newly formed retail-technology company, Cygnetics Corp., and university officials said that 15 other local companies have expressed interest. Paul F. Briggs Jr., a retired executive from Duke Energy, has been appointed the director of the incubator. www.mba.wfu.edu
Wachovia Sets Lending Goal of $5 Billion to Women-Owned Businesses
Charlotte-based Wachovia says it has committed to a goal of lending $5 billion to women-owned businesses by the end of 2005. As part of the commitment, Wachovia has underwritten "Removing the Boundaries: The Continued Progress and Achievement of Women-Owned Enterprises," a new study conducted by the Center for Women's Business Research in Washington, D.C. The study is an in-depth look at the characteristics of women-owned firms in the United States between December 1997 and December 2000, focusing on financial strength and growth. www.wachovia.com
