PPD Buys Intek for $6.6 Million
Wilmington-based Pharmaceutical Product Development Inc. (PPD) bought Intek Labs Inc., a Cary-based testing laboratory, for 400,000 shares of stock valued at $6.6 million.
Plans call for Intek, which expects to generate less that $300,000 in revenue this year, to expand dramatically under PPD. In addition to moving to larger quarters in the Research Triangle Park, Intek plans to expand from five employees to as many as 40 by the end of next year.
Intek performs pharmacognetic testing for clinical testing for clinical drug trials. PPD is a clinical research organization that plans to enter the pharmacognetics field with Intek.
Medic Computer Systems Acquisition Approved by Shareholders
Medic Computer Systems Inc.
shareholders have approved the $923 million acquisition of Raleigh-based Medic by Misys of London.
Medic is a provider and developer of health care information management systems to integrated delivery networks, management service organizations, managed care organizations, hospitals, physician practices and home health care agencies.

The 14th annual Conference on Entrepreneurship is set for February 7th, 1998. The conference is sponsored by the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED), Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and the Business Leader magazine.
