CED Announces Conference Co-Chairs for Opportunity 2007

UNCW’s Stephen Harper and Southern Capitol Ventures’ David Jones Lead the Initiative to Make 5th Annual Conference a Success

July 9, 2007, Research Triangle Park, N.C. – The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) today announced the conference co-chairs for the 5th annual Opportunity Conference, scheduled for Sept. 10-11, 2007, at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort in Wrightsville Beach, N.C. Stephen C. Harper, Ph.D., a professor of entrepreneurship at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and David Jones, principal at Southern Capitol Ventures, will assist CED in planning and steering the content for Opportunity 2007.

Harper is the Progress Energy/Betty Cameron Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Cameron School of Business. Harper has written numerous books on management and entrepreneurship and received various teaching awards. He has also served on the Board of Directors for a number of corporations and nonprofit organizations.

Jones is a principal at Southern Capitol Ventures.  Prior to joining Southern Capitol Ventures, he was a senior information technology consultant for Deloitte Consulting where he managed strategic technology projects for the Department of Homeland Security. Jones is co-founder and chief information officer of a medical device portal, Orthocopia.com, which provides surgical information to operating room professionals. His background in technology stems from the military, where he served as a Naval Aviator flying over 1900 hours in the P-3C Orion.

“The Opportunity Conference is an excellent and informative resource for entrepreneurs at any stage,” said Jones. “The conference offers a wealth of knowledge and experience in entrepreneurship and tactics to grow your business along with critical networking opportunities between entrepreneurs, investors and service providers.”

Opportunity 2007 will feature expert speakers and concurrent panels that are relevant to businesses of all stages and high-growth industries.  In addition, hands-on workshops will focus on starting and growing a business. Other conference highlights include presentations from 10 early-stage companies, Start-up Speed Dating, and one-on-one Curbside Consulting sessions.
