CED's 24th Venture Conference Showcases Investment Opportunities

Conference Highlights 67 High-Growth Companies; Attracts 800+ Attendees and Investors from 20 States

April 25, 2007, Research Triangle Park, NC – The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) hosted its 24th annual Venture conference Monday through Wednesday with more than 800 people participating in total, including more than 250 investors. The three-day conference, held at Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club on the campus of Duke University in Durham, N.C., showcased the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic’s top investment opportunities to angel investors, venture capitalists and financiers from 20 states.

Venture 2007 included presentations by 67 of the most promising private companies from an eight-state region. In addition, the conference featured a national media panel discussion on the future of the venture capital market, as well as an Angel Investor Retreat with featured remarks from Jeffrey Sohl, Ph.D., director of the Center for Venture Research at the University of New Hampshire.

The conference also offered a first-ever Start-up Speed Dating session on Tuesday afternoon, which gave pre-seed companies an opportunity to meet with investors in a fast-paced, rotating session. On Wednesday morning, the conference presented keynote remarks by Marshall Phelps, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel of intellectual property at Microsoft Corp., and Kush Parikh, vice president of business development at Inrix.

"With 67 of the region’s top investment opportunities and a general attendance of more than 800 entrepreneurs, investors and service providers, Venture 2007 was an overwhelming success,” said CED President Monica Doss. "The conference is a true testament to the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic’s thriving entrepreneurial spirit."
