CED Challenges Entrepreneurial Community to Raise 1/2 Million Pounds of Food for Annual Drive
CED President Monica Doss to Chair 20th Annual Heart of Carolina Food Drive
November 20, 2006, Research Triangle Park, N.C. – The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) is challenging the region’s entrepreneurial community to contribute 500,000 pounds of food to the 20th Annual Heart of Carolina Food Drive.
CED President Monica Doss, who is chairing this year’s food drive, encourages CED’s network of over 4,000 entrepreneurs, investors and service professionals to contribute to this important cause.
“The Heart of Carolina Food Bank plays a crucial roll in feeding the hungry in our community,” said Doss, who is in her 20th year at the helm of CED. “With more than 400,000 people living at or below the poverty level in the 34-county service area of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, a strong commitment from everyone is needed to ensure no one goes hungry this holiday season.”
This year, a special Entrepreneurs’ Challenge has been created by leaders in the entrepreneurial community. Intersouth Partners, Square 1 Bank, Inspire Pharmaceuticals and Motricity have combined their resources to issue a $30,000 challenge to entrepreneurs and those who work with them.
“We’re asking entrepreneurs and the service providers who work with them to match that amount through company food drives and individual donations. Entrepreneurs have unique approaches to solving problems, and today we are calling on that creativity to help feed the hungry in our community,” said Mitch Mumma, of Intersouth Partners, which is a long time supporter of the Food Bank.
ABC 11, along with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and Kroger, are sponsoring the 20th annual Heart of Carolina Food Drive. The 2006 food drive will run through December 15.
Last year, almost 200 organizations partnered with the Food Bank to provide 500,000 pounds of food to those members of our community at serious risk of hunger, almost a third of whom are children.
The overall goal for the 2006 Heart of Carolina food drive is 750,000 pounds. For every dollar donated, the Food Bank can purchase 5-8 pounds of food or about four whole meals.
