CED Celebrates 20 Years and Honors Entrepreneurial Successes

CED Presents Annual Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards on June 9


June 10, 2004, Research Triangle Park, NC - The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) honored area entrepreneurs and high-growth companies during the organization's annual Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards & 20th Anniversary Family Celebration on June 9. An estimated 500 people attended the event, which was held at Raleigh's RBC Center.

Below are the 2004 award winners:

  • Entrepreneurial Excellence Award - Kay Wagoner, Icagen
  • Deal of the Year (Private Company) - Biolex, Inc.
  • Deal of the Year (Public Company) - LendingTree, Inc.
  • Master Mentor - Rollie Tillman, Jr.
  • Hat Trick Award - Dave Babson, Ken Romley and Mike Doernberg
  • Outstanding Service to Entrepreneurs - Horace Johnson
  • Product of the Year - LVL7 Systems, Inc.
  • Technology of the Year - Integrian, Inc.
  • Spinout of the Year - Cellective Therapeutics, Inc.
  • FastTrac Company of the Year - Affinergy, Inc.
  • Community Impact (Individual) - Michael and Laura Brader-Araje
  • Community Impact (Company) - Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
  • Charles Hamner Leadership Award - Dr. Stuart Bondurant, UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Medicine (previously awarded at CED's Biotech 2004 conference on May 27, 2004)

“This year's award winners showcase the valuable contributions entrepreneurs make throughout the community,” said CED President Monica Doss. “In addition to recognizing this year's entrepreneurial success stories, we also celebrate CED's 20-year anniversary and look forward to continuing our mission of advancing entrepreneurship for many years to come.”
