CED Asserts 'Entrepreneurship is Alive and Well'

Strong Companies and Major Fundraising Investments
Show Bright Future for CED and Area Entrepreneurs

June 18, 2002, Research Triangle Park, NC - At the Council for Entrepreneurial Development's (CED) annual Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards on June 18, the award winners weren't the only ones rejoicing. The crowd celebrated the entire entrepreneurship sector of the regional economy through recognition of the high caliber awardees and the announcement of a recent large commitment to CED's Innovation to Impact campaign.

"Tonight reinforces that there are still great entrepreneurs starting and running terrific companies," said Monica Doss, CED president. "Entrepreneurs are an optimistic bunch and will prevail even in difficult economic times."

The other big announcement of the evening included a $150,000 commitment from Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. (only the second firm to commit at that level). The commitment brings the current campaign total to $3.5 million in cash pledges and to almost $4 million with trades.
